Soundproofing Ceilings

Ceiling soundproofing systems to treat the problems of both impact and airborne noise.

       Clip and furring channels on concrete (via timber battens).

 

OPTION 1:

Data Sheet Ceilings

This system is ideally suited to ceilings with no cavity and a concrete ceiling in place. 

Any current ceilings linings will be removed and waste disposed.

  • Remove any existing ceiling that maybe in place (eg batten and board) and dispose of waste (if requested).

  • Fix timber battens to ceiling via mechanical bolt fixings.

  • Fill cavity with 50mm 60kg mineral wool insulation.

  • Fix clip and furring channels at 400mm centers across ceiling joists.

  • Fix first layer of 15mm SoundBloc plasterboard to furring channels.

  • Seal all gaps with acoustic sealant

  • Adhere Tecsound membrane over entirety of boarded area.

  • Fix second layer of 15mm SoundBloc plasterboard to furring channels.

  • Plaster finish (if requested).

  • Approx 7cm loss of space

OPTION 2:
Clip and furring channel system (to joists)

This system is ideally suited to ceilings with cavities and timber joists. 

The current ceilings will be removed and waste disposed.

  • Remove existing ceiling and dispose of waste (if requested).

  • Fill cavity with 100mm 60kg mineral wool insulation.

  • Fix clip and furring channels at 400mm centers across ceiling joists.

  • Fix first layer of 15mm SoundBloc plasterboard to furring channels.

  • Seal all gaps with acoustic sealant

  • Adhere Tecsound membrane over entirety of boarded area.

  • Fix second layer of 15mm SoundBloc plasterboard to furring channels.

  • Plaster finish (if requested).

  • Approx 7cm loss of space

OPTION 3:
Independant timber frame ceiling

Best suited to large ceiling heights and where original lathe and plaster ceilings can not be removed.

  • Construct independent timber frame ceiling. (Depth dependant on room length and width)

  • Fill cavity with 100mm 60kg mineral wool insulation.

  • Fix clip and furring channels at 400mm centers across ceiling joists.

  • Fix first layer of 15mm SoundBloc plasterboard to furring channels.

  • Seal all gaps with acoustic sealant

  • Adhere Tecsound membrane over entirety of boarded area.

  • Fix second layer of 15mm SoundBloc plasterboard to furring channels.

  • Plaster finish (if requested).

  • Approx 7cm loss of space

These 3 systems are generally considered the most popular in domestic settings but can be altered to suit different challenges and needs
